“What's the best way to clean & store my pearls?"

This is definitely one of our most common FAQs from our customers at our Broome Markets stall!

So I thought I would share my tips with all of you, in case you were wondering too

CLEANING: Use a very soft dry cloth to gently wipe down pearls after each wear to remove any oils, makeup or perfume before storing. For thorough cleaning, make a gentle solution of mild soap and warm water.... emphasis on the MILD soap & make sure the water is just warm, not hot!

Never use chemical cleaners on pearls... even if they’re naturally based or specifically for jewellery Natural cleaners often contain strong acids like vinegar that will ruin your pearls.

STORING: Pearl jewellery is best kept in a soft-cloth pouch or a soft-lined jewelry box, away from other pieces or stones that may scratch their surface.

Hot tip for storing - Never store your pearls in an airtight container such a ziplock bag. Remember that pearls are organic and contain trace amounts of water, so storing them in an airtight container will cause them to become brittle & damage the lustre.
